Name:
O.J. Mayo |
 |
|
School:
USC |
|
Position: SG |
|
Class: Freshman |
|
Height: 6'4" |
|
Weight: 200 |
|
Strengths: |
Let's
start with the good news, O.J. Mayo has a number of traits which
should make him an extremely effective NBA player shortly into
his pro career. Few players short of Rip Hamilton use
screens and mid-range jump shots as well as Mayo does.
He's a born scorer with buckets full of confidence to ensure he
won't hang his head after a couple misses. Mayo has legit
NBA 3-point range. His shooting form is as close to
textbook as you'll find. While he lacks ideal height for
the shooting guard position, his strength allows him to muscle
defenders. He possesses a deep desire to be an outstanding
player. |
|
Weaknesses: |
Undersized for the shooting guard position and lacks the natural
instincts to play the point guard position. An outstanding
athlete, but for some reason his test numbers don't always
translate to his in-game abilities. Can fall into
selfishness habits. Already has quite an ego and it's only
going to get bigger with age. He's proven coachable while
at USC, but you have to wonder if that's going to continue as he
gets into his NBA career. Can be turnover prone as he
looks to make the difficult play rather than the simple one. |
|
Overall:
|
In
high school he had a reputation of being uncoachable and
arrogant, at USC all the reports have been good ones. If
that stays true, Mayo will be a very good NBA player who'll play
in some all-star games. If he doesn't, he'll still be
pretty good, but never great. |
