Name:
J.J. Hickson |
 |
|
School:
N.C. State |
|
Position: PF |
|
Class: Freshman |
|
Height: 6'9" |
|
Weight: 242 |
|
Strengths: |
A
classic back to the basket bruiser in the paint. Enjoys
contact. Excellent strength, especially when you consider
that he's only 19 years old. Shows very good leaping
ability that allows him to attack the boards and block shots.
Makes up for being slightly undersized by having long arms.
Always looking to score (maybe to a fault). Looks to
attack the rim and dunk anytime he's in the paint. Flashes
a couple moves in the lane. |
|
Weaknesses: |
He's
listed at 6'9", but we're guessing he's in the 6'8" range
(although we don't know because he wasn't at the pre-draft
camp). Has a limited shooting range. Isn't very
effective when playing facing the basket. Can go through
stretches when he's something of a black hole on offense.
Doesn't handle the ball naturally and isn't much of a passer.
Seems to lack aggression when required to leave the paint and
guard his man on the perimeter. |
|
Overall:
|
The
North Carolina State program was a mess last year and you have
to wonder what kind of impact that had on Hickson and how he'll
respond once he's away from it. Something of a rarity in
this day and age, an old school power forward. He'll need
time to develop. |
